Statement of Principle
After almost 15 years of experience as a massage therapist, working on almost every body type (from weekend warriors to elite athletes, from office workers to truck drivers) I have found that aches and pains in the human body come in different levels. For instance shoulder pains can be caused by a number of possibilities ranging from metabolic waste build-up or a strained muscle to the need to adjust the shoulder joint. I have spent many years studying and learning about the complexities of the human body. All of this effort has been directed at becoming a more skilled and effective massage therapist. Each person is unique and the massage therapy must be individually developed in order to attain results. There are many different massage techniques - such as the following:
Swedish or Classic Massage
I use Swedish or Classic Massage techniques to relax and smooth out over-wrought muscles.
Sport Massage
This massage technique is very effective in accelerating muscle recovery of overused muscles, to heal muscle injury from strain, to increase athletic performance, and to attain full range of muscular movement.
Connective Tissue Massage
Massage science recognizes the critical role played by connective tissue. Connective tissue massage the therapist is able to open up connective tissue that connects muscle to bone, bone to bone and improve circulation of blood and lymph, improving muscle health.
Visceral Manipulation
Body organs are held in place by combinations of ligament, muscle and fat. Body organs work best when they are able to achieve natural movement as part of their function. However, muscular restrictions can hamper full organic functions. For example, the liver is a critical organ for human health - it is located on the diaphragm. Restrictions in the liver will affect the diaphragm and muscles that connect to the lower back. A chronic backache can mean that you need some liver manipulation.
Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic massage is effective in helping joint movement and increasing muscular range of motion.
Kinesio Taping
Kinesio taping is a massage technique used to extend the effect of the massage work after the massage session is done. Many people who saw the recent Olympic Games commented on the kineseo tape used by different athletes, such as Kerry Walsh of the Beach Volleyball USA Team, to help her with recovery from surgery.
